About the T-72:
The T-72 is a Soviet second-generation battle tank that entered production in 1971. It came to fruition as a result of development into the T-64. In 1973, the first T-72 model “Ural” was pushed out of production. It came armed with a 125 mm smoothbore tank gun and an optical coincidence rangefinder. Later variants came with composite armor, fire control, and laser rangefinder systems. The T-72 “Ural” had an automatic loading system, eliminating the need for a dedicated crewmember.
While the T-72 was never used in the Afghanistan war, it was used primarily by the Russian Federation, with over 5,000 T-72 tanks in use. The T-72 has been actively used in Syria, Iraq, during the Chechen wars, and numerous other wars leading to present days. It is currently used in Northern Iraq offensive and the Ukraine conflicts. One of the best features of the T-72 is the attached 125 mm 2A46 series main gun, which is significantly larger than the standard 105 mm gun found in western MBTs. The gun shoots a “siren” two-plane electrohydraulic stabilizer, which allows automatic stabilization with speeds from .05-6 degrees per second.

The Gaz AAA was a 6×4 Cargo truck, based on the Ford AAA model, and built in the Soviet Union in the 1930’s and 40s. During World War II it was supplied to the Soviet Army by the thousands, serving a similar role as the CCKW “Jimmy” for the American Army. Gaz trucks were a vital component to the Soviet War effort and were used in a wide ranging variety of purposes, from hauling equipment, towing artillery pieces and forming the basis for numerous specialty vehicles.

The ZiS-3 76mm Field Gun (Officially designated M1942 Divisional Gun) was the most common medium artillery piece used by the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. Due to the innovated addition of the massive muzzle brake, pre-war 76mm gun barrels could be mated to the light weight ZiS-2 anti-tank gun carriage. This created a compact, mobile, inexpensive, versatile and easy to produce artillery piece that was called, “A masterpiece of artillery systems design.” by Joseph Stalin. The ZiS-3 gun was the main armament used for the Su-76 self-propelled gun. Most ZiS-3 guns were withdrawn from the Red Army after World War II and were later supplied to satellite states. The ZiS-3 was used by communist forces in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Restock: SU-152
The SU-152 was a frankenstein’s monster of WWII. In the original design, the Soviets mounted a 152mm Howitzer on the chassis of the KV-1S tank. In later production runs the IS tank chassis was used and the design was redesignated as the ISU-152. The SU-152 found itself in the role of impromptu heavy tank destroyer and rose admirably to the task. It was capable of knocking out the heaviest German armored vehicles. Tigers, Panthers and Elefant tank destroyers all met their doom at the business end of the SU-152. This proficiency earned it the name Zveroboy or “Beast Slayer”. Although not designed for the role, the SU-152 proved to be a cheap, widely produced and effective heavy tank killer, second only to the SU-100 as an antitank vehicle, as well as highly successful at its intended role against infantry and fortifications. In combat, it was used for two distinct purposes: long-range artillery fire support during assaults by suppressing infantry and destroying pillboxes and AT guns, and as ersatz heavy tank destroyers (usually in ambush). The SU-152 was produced in large numbers throughout 1943, with the first SU-152s being issued to new heavy mechanized gun regiments raised in May 1943. The first regiment arrived at Kursk with only twelve guns, and was brought up to its full strength of twenty-one guns during the fighting.

Restock: M3A1 Scout Car
The M3 series of armored cars was used in various theaters during WWII. The A1 class was used as a scout car for the US Army in the North African campaigns. It also saw combat use during the invasion of Sicily, as well as in Normandy. In addition to it’s use as a scouting vehicle, the M3A1 was also used as an ambulance, a gun tractor, as well as a vehicle for command and patrolling.
The M3A1’s design differed from it’s predecessor, the M3, in the way of a bigger hull. The Scout Car was capable of carrying up to seven infantrymen, and provide fire support through the use of one .50 caliber and up to two .30 caliber machine guns. It was equipped with an unditching roller, full-time 4WD, and power brakes, which were unusual for the period. The hull was protected with two armored plates ranging from .25 to .51 inches in thickness. While the leaf-spring suspension prevented these vehicles from being fully off road, they saw plenty of action in the Tunisia, and they were proven to be effective scouting vehicles during that time.
